Federal Energy Regulatory Commission Issues Klamath Draft Environmental Impact Statement

On February 25, 2022, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) issued the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for the Proposed Surrender and Decommissioning of the Lower Klamath Project.  FERC staff recommend approval of license surrender, finding that removal of the four dams will provide significant environmental and economic benefits.  FERC will accept public comments on the DEIS until April 18.  A final EIS is expected by September 2022.  If approved, this will be the largest dam removal and salmon restoration project in U.S. history.  WPLG is General Counsel to the Klamath River Renewal Corporation, the dam removal entity.

The DEIS can be viewed on KRRC’s website here.
